MIMI SCHLUMBERGER
Mimi is both a talented businessperson and a heart-felt philanthropist. Her work with non-profits began in 1991 when she met Ted and Connie Ning. The Nings passion for the poor and their determination to change the world from the ground up led Mimi to become involved and ultimately grow Friendship Bridge into a micro-credit organization serving women in both Vietnam and Guatemala. Mimi served as a critical part of the Friendship Bridge board for over 12 years guiding the organization as both Board Member (1994-2006) & President (2003-2006). Under her watchful eye (leadership) Friendship Bridge grew from 30 borrowers to over 15,000.
Her passion for women, children and business led her to co-found a new non-profit in Guatemala, Starfish One by One. Her goal is to further empower the young Mayan children of Guatemala to get an education, have a mentor to look up to, a learning center to go to and a dream to make a reality. She believes whole-heartedly that Starfish One by One is the way to accomplish that goal.
Mimi's impressive business background began when she moved to Aspen in 1960. Seeing the need to teach children to ski Mimi started Powder Pandas, a world famous ski school for children in Aspen. She continued to own and operate the school from 1979 – 1999.
Mimi has lent her incredible business mind to both the for-profit & non-profit worlds in immeasurable ways and continues to inspire, motivate, teach and learn from all of those around her.
