JANE HANSON-ERSNTROM
Throughout my life and my career, I have had a passion for promoting health in women and children through service, education and compassion. I am a certified nurse-midwife and currently serve as a nurse consultant to preschools and child care programs in the Denver metro area. I also serve as a part-time instructor at Red Rocks Community College, teaching Medication Administration Training and Universal Precautions to preschool teachers and child care providers. I am also a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of New Jersey and a Masters of Science and Nurse-Midwifery from The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
My career began as a registered nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Spanish Harlem, New York City in 1997. While working in high risk antepartum and gynecological surgery, many women I took care of only spoke Spanish. This began my journey and love of learning to speak Spanish. (Which I am continuing to pursue now with weekly classes 20 years later!) After two years in NYC, I moved to California to work at Stanford University Hospital, rotating between newborn nursery, high risk antepartum, and postpartum units. Then, following my husband-to-be, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts and worked on a tertiary labor and delivery unit at Beth Israel Hospital. Finally, I returned to graduate school in Denver, Colorado to fulfill a dream to become a certified nurse-midwife and graduated in 1996.
I have worked at Planned Parenthood in both their obstetric and general gynecological clinics educating young women in birth control and prevention of STDs. Additionally, I have conducted clinical research on obstetrical and gynecological studies, including preterm labor, pelvic inflammatory disease and vaginitis at the University of Colorado. I have a passion for women’s research as a gateway to health and prevention.
I live with my loving family: husband Bill and three children, Sophia, Celia and Jack. We adopted my son Jack from Guatemala in 2005 and so the country and its people hold a special place in my heart.
